Pre-emphasis and de-emphasis

In an FM transmission noise is triangular in nature, predominantly occurring at higher frequencies. A simple and effective method of partially combating this is to boost the higher frequencies on transmission and reducing it in the receiver. The amount of boost is defined by the time constant of a simple RC filter. The time constant is usually 50uS except for North America which is 75uS.
